Miriam R. Stein

Miriam R. Stein is a partner at Arnstein & Lehr LLP and a member of the firm’s Financial Restructuring and Bankruptcy Practice Group. She has extensive experience in general insolvency matters, including representing corporate debtors in restructurings, both in and outside bankruptcy court. Ms. Stein also has experience in representing secured lenders, trustees and official committee of unsecured creditors in Chapter 11 proceedings and defending trade creditors in preference actions. Prior to entering private practice, Ms. Stein served as a law clerk for the Honorable Erwin I. Katz, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge for the Northern District of Illinois.
In August 2010, Ms. Stein was appointed as a Chapter 7 Panel Trustee for the Northern District of Illinois (Lake County). The United States Trustee Program is a component of the Department of Justice and seeks to promote the efficiency and protect the integrity of the federal bankruptcy system.
Professional Activities and Achievements
Ms. Stein is a member of the Chicago Bar Association and Commercial Law League and is a Chapter 7 Trustee.
Recent Publications and Lectures
Ms. Stein is the co-author of an article on “Disputed Trustee Elections” published in the Commercial Law Bulletin. She has also written on U.C.C. Article 1 for Matthew Bender’s publication.
Ms. Stein has spoken before numerous legal organizations, including the Illinois and Chicago Bar Associations, on the issues of corporate reorganization and distressed real estate issues in bankruptcy.
