Michael L. Gesas
Michael L. Gesas is a partner in the firm’s Chicago office. His practice focuses on bankruptcy law in Illinois and Chapter 11 representation in the State of Delaware. Mr. Gesas represents creditors and commercial debtors in corporate and business reorganizations. His practice includes liquidation proceedings, compositions, assignments for the benefit of creditors, asset acquisitions and sales through the bankruptcy court and other forums, workouts, contract negotiations and related commercial representation and litigation.
Professional Activities and Achievements
Mr. Gesas is a member of the American Bar Association, Illinois State Bar Association, Chicago Bar Association’s Bankruptcies and Reorganization Committee, and the Commercial Law League of America. In July 1996 he was named one of Illinois’ leading attorneys in the bankruptcy field. In 2002 Mr. Gesas was recognized by the Law Bulletin Publishing Company as ranking in the top 5% Illinois corporate attorneys in the field of bankruptcy and workout law. More recently, Mr. Gesas has been named to the Best Lawyers in America for 2009 and was named to Corporate Counsel‘s Top Lawyers: Bankruptcy And Creditor-Debtor Rights Law list. He also received the Martindale-Hubbell highest AV® Preeminent™ 5.0 out of 5.0 rating.
Mr. Gesas is an instructor at the John Marshall Law School. He teaches the real estate law class, “Bankruptcy and Insolvency Laws Affecting Real Estate.” He has also been a speaker for the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education and the United States Environmental Protection Agency.
