David L. Newman
Partner
David L. Newman is a partner in Arnstein & Lehr’s Chicago office. He is a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property Practice Group. Mr. Newman focuses his practice on intellectual property law, including patents, trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets. His experience includes handling litigation involving intellectual property, preparing and prosecuting applications for obtaining various types of intellectual properties, and opinion work involving business methods, computers, consumer goods, electronic commerce, mechanical devices, medical devices, pharmaceuticals and telecommunications.
Mr. Newman has handled numerous litigations involving U.S. and foreign patents, unfair trade practices, copyrights, trade dress, trademarks, trade secrets, antitrust and breach of contract throughout the country. He has been involved in all aspects of practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, including patent appeals, reissues and reexamination proceedings. David has instructed courses involving claim drafting for patent applications and is a periodic guest lecturer on intellectual property topics at the DePaul University Kellstadt Graduate School of Business.
Mr. Newman has represented clients in IP arbitration disputes under the American Arbitration Association’s Commercial Arbitration Rules. He is also a member of the Licensing Executives Society International, Standard Licensing Agreements Committee.
Mr. Newman has been worked on IP matters involving technologies including financial service and securities trading systems, email, internet encryption systems, eCommerce technology, internet mapping systems, internet server systems, mp3 compression, gaming technology, HVAC controllers, semiconductor testing systems, charger plug adapters for cell phones, pixel imaging systems, article writing artificial intelligence system, luggage locking and security systems, optoelectronics, fiber optics, optical connectors, cable assemblies, semiconductor lasers, electromagnetic shielding, wave division multiplexing (WDM) systems, electrical connectors, torque sensors, semiconductor chip sockets, PC cards, position sensors, electrical cables, Ethernet communication devices, buss bars, differential signal terminators and automotive safety systems.
